I’ve wanted to start some sort of Auck Ward feature in which I literally give you a snapshot of what life looks like in New Zealand. Instagram is probably the best way to go, but I wanted to experiment with a blog feature.
Obviously, this here is a cafe. It’s the No. 1 Queen Street Cafe and Bar near the ferry and cruise terminal in the Auckland CBD (central business district, or downtown). This location holds fond memories for me: Back in 2010, this is where Kiwi and I had coffee and breakfast before we went to what would soon be my favorite place in the world: Waiheke Island.
Notice all the glass and metal, and the high rise in the background of the cafe. It looks futuristic, not your usual green, lush New Zealand. But I thought it would be interesting to show what urban Auckland, or an urban New Zealand environment, looks like.
I stopped by here this past week for a pot of peppermint tea on the way to a meeting. I need some help with my tea pouring skills, as some would always drip down the side of the kettle (see water stains on the wood table). Sloppy American.
This photo feature is going to evolve over time, as I figure out an effective way to show you New Zealand in a nice, little bite-sized chunk. If you enjoy this, or have some constructive criticism, please share it in the comments.
